ㅁ(미음) 프로젝트 스페이스는 북한산을 바라보고 있는 문화예술 특화 지역인 서울 평창동 들머리에 2021년 4월 문을 연 뒤 지속적으로 국내외 현대미술 작가들을 중심으로 새로운 시각언어를 발굴하고 소개하고 있다.
작가들과의 협업을 통해 다양한 관점으로 작품을 기획 전시하여 미술 언어를 확장시키고, 동시대 예술에 대한 고정관념에 도전하는 장을 열어가고자 하는 게 ㅁ의 목표다. 이를 위하여 작가와 관객, 아트콜렉터와 소통을 유도하는 과정을 바탕으로 다양한 전시연계 프로그램과 이벤트를 거듭하고 있다. 이 과정은 일반 시민에게는 일상적으로 문화예술을 향유하는 기회를 확대하는 일이기도 하다. 나아가 국내/국제 아트페어와 전시에 참여하여 미술시장에 한국 작가와 작품을 알리는 데 노력하고 있다. 이와 같이 다채로운 예술 상상을 구현하고 건강하고 지속 가능한 미술생태계를 만드는 데 이바지하는 것을 ㅁ의 사명으로 삼고 있다.
MIUM PROJECT SPACE
MIUM Project Space is an art gallery in Seoul, South Korea, founded in April 2021. Surrounded by mountains, the gallery is located in the district of Pyeongchang-dong where the art and culture scene thrives.
MIUM strives to discover and introduce new contemporary visual languages that reflect diverse perspectives and challenge contemporary aesthetics through professional curation programs. MIUM also continually organizes various events to provide a platform for passionate communication between artists, audiences, and collectors. By actively collaborating with artists and regularly participating in international art fairs, MIUM promotes such works in the art industry.
건축 소개
‘평창동 들머리’를 뜻하는 ‘평창동구平倉洞口’는 서로 다른 한글 자음인 ‘ㄱ’과 ‘ㄴ’이 모여 ‘ㅁ’이 되듯 주거공간과 문화공간이 어우러져 예술이 삶과 함께 작동하는 프로젝트 일환으로 건축되었다. 건물은 터미널7아키텍츠(건축가 조경찬)가 디자인 설계했다. 대지 특성과 주변 산세를 포함하여 기존 공간을 미학적으로 적극 활용하고 있다. 집집이 실내 정원을 품고 있는 9세대의 주거공간은 ‘나만의 집’ 개념 아래 독자 구조로 디자인되었고, 공동생활 공간은 북한산 형제봉과 북악산 산등성이를 끌어당기는 차경借景을 구현하면서 전시공간으로 연결된다. ㅁ 프로젝트스페이스 전시공간과 사무공간 사이에는 대나무 숲 중정中庭을 배치하였는데 이는 자연스러운 공간 구분과 채광 통로 구실을 한다. 평창동구는 이처럼 자연, 예술, 삶이 조화를 이루며 생동하는 감각적 공간이다.
The Architectural Story
MIUM PCDG(PyeongChangDongGu), which means 'the entrance of Pyeongchang-dong', was built as part of an architectural project in which art and life relate to each other by harmonizing residential and cultural spaces. The building PCDG was designed by Terminal 7 Architects (architect Jo Kyung-chan). The original space, including the characteristics of the land and the shape of surrounding mountains, is aesthetically utilized. The 9 residential spaces with indoor gardens in each flat was designed with the concept of ‘my unique home’, and the communal living space is connected to the art gallery MIUM while embodying the natural ridges of Bukhansan Mountain and Bukaksan Mountain. A bamboo forest courtyard was placed between the exhibition space and the office space in MIUM, which serves as a natural division of space and a passage for light. PCDG is a sensuous space where nature, art and life communicate in harmony.
