임영주 작가(b.1972)는 인천에서 태어나 인하대학교 미술교육과를 졸업하였다. 회화 작업에 대한 갈증으로 2000년대 초반 독일 유학을 떠나 라이프찌히 미술대학 회화과에 진학하여 지그하르트 길레(Sighard Gille) 교수의 지도 아래 회화의 기본을 다지고 작가로서의 독창적인 작품세계를 확립해왔다.

자아의 원초적 불안과 유년시절의 기억, 상이한 현실의 양태와 내적 풍경을 다양한 방식으로 병치시키며 작업하고 있는 임영주 작가는 라이프찌히와 베를린을 오가며 2015년 Move on(베를린), 2017년 Gallery Heinrich Hoff(브뤼겐), 2019년 G11(라이프찌히), 2022년 Gallery Potemka(라이프찌히) 등 다수의 기획전, 단체전에 참여하며 독일을 중심으로 활발한 작업활동을 이어가고 있다.

Born in Incheon in 1972, Young Ju Yim graduated from Inha University with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts Education. With a thirst for painting, he left for Germany and entered the Department of Painting at the University of Fine Arts in Leipzig. Under the guidance of Professor Sighard Gille, he established the basics of painting and made a unique world of art as an artist.
Young Ju Yim juxtaposes the primordial anxiety of the ego and memories of childhood, and different aspects of reality and internal scenery in various ways on canvas. Living in Leipzig and Berlin, he actively participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions, including Move on (Berlin) in 2015, Gallery Heinrich Hoff (Brueggen) in 2017, G11 (Leipzig) in 2019, and Gallery Potemka (Leipzig) in 2022.
