Sangdon Kim
김상돈(1973년생)은 재개발되기 전 천호동 일대에서 성장했다. 급변하는 동네에서 도시 공간과 건축, 풍경이 변모하는 양태를 관찰하던 그는 독일로 건너가 베를린국립예술대학교 순수미술과에서 사진을 수학했다. 귀국 후 도시의 사회-경제적 풍경을 다룬 작업들로 대안미술공간 등 주로 미술 주변부에서 프로젝트를 진행하며 답사와 기록, 채집, 액션의 과정을 통해 미술의 형식적 구분없이 총체적으로 작업하는 작업 방식이 만들어졌다. 제12회 에르메스 코리아 미술상(2011), 제10회 다음작가상(2011), 제3회 두산연강예술상(2012) 그리고 제1회 안국미술상(2021)을 수상하였다. 백남준기념관에서 예술감독(2016-17)을 역임했다. 뉴욕 뉴뮤지엄(2008), 멕시코 따마요 현대미술관(2009), 호주 아시아 퍼시픽 트리엔날레(2012), 광주비엔날레(2021), SeMA비엔날레 <미디어시티서울>(2018), 부산비엔날레(2006, 2012) 등 국내외 단체전과 비엔날레에 참여하며 작품 활동을 하고 있다.

Sangdon Kim(b.1973) grew up in the Cheonho-dong area before it was redeveloped. Having observed the transformation of city space, architecture, and landscape in a rapidly changing neighborhood, he moved to Germany and studied photography at the College of Fine Arts of Berlin University of the Arts. After his return to Korea, he worked mainly in the art periphery, including in alternative art spaces, on projects dealing with the socio-economic landscape of cities. From then, his way of working without any formal distinctions of art types was created through the processes of exploring, recording, collecting, and action. He won the 12th Hermes Korea Art Award (2011), the 10th Daum Artist Award (2011), the 3rd Doosan Yonkang Foundation Art Award (2012) and the 1st Anguk Art Award (2021). He served as Artistic Director at the Paik Nam June Memorial Museum (2016-17). He has participated in domestic and international group exhibitions and biennales, including at the New Museum, New York (2008), Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art, Mexico (2009), Asia Pacific Triennale, Australia (2012), Gwangju Biennale (2021), SeMA Biennale ‘Media City Seoul’ (2018), Busan Biennale (2006, 2012), etc., and continues to work.
