권 기 수 Kisoo Kwon
1972년 경북 영주에서 출생한 권기수는 홍익대학교 미술대학과 동 대학원 동양화과를 졸업하였다. 전통 수묵화 형식을 따르기 보다 자신만의 방식으로 해석하여 1999년~2002년 장지에 수묵으로 ‘동구리’라는 기호화된 인격체를 탄생시켰다.
2003년 이스라엘 Jerusalem Center for Visual Arts의 레지던스에 초대된 것을 시작으로 2008년에는 iGoogle 아티스트 프로젝트에 선정되었다. 2015년, 미국에서 가장 권위 있는 장학재단 중 하나인 풀브라이트 장학 프로그램에 선정되어 미국 Concordia College에서 방문 교수를 역임하였다.
국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 경기도립미술관, 제주현대미술관 등 국내 대표 미술관과 상하이 Long Museum, 샌프란시스코 Asian Art Museum 등 해외 주요 미술관에도 작품이 소장되어 있다.
베니스 비엔날레, 오스트리아 Asia-Pacific 트리엔날레, 상하이 MOCA, 일본 MORI ART Museum, 런던 Saatchi Gallery, 뉴욕 MAD 미술관, 뉴욕 UN 본부, MOCA 타이페이 등 다양한 곳에서 국제 전시를 참여하며 활발히 활동 하고 있다.
Kwon Ki-soo, born in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do in 1972, graduated from Hongik University with a bachelor's and master's degree in Oriental Painting.
Instead of conforming with the traditional ink painting style, he interpreted it in his own way and created a symbolized personality called ‘Dongguri’ in ink on Hanji from 1999 to 2002.
In 2003, he was invited to the residence of Jerusalem Center for Visual Arts, Israel, and was selected for the iGoogle Artist Project in 2008.
In 2015, he was awarded with the Fulbright Scholarship Program, one of the most prestigious scholarship foundations in the United States and served as a visiting professor at Concordia College.
His works are also housed in major domestic art museums such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as major overseas art museums such as Long Museum in Shanghai and Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
He continues to participate in international exhibitions at various places including Venice Biennale, Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Australia, MoCA Shanghai, MORI ART Museum in Japan, Saatchi Gallery in London, Museum of Arts and Design in New York, United Nations in New York, MoCA Taipei etc.
권 순 영 Soon-young Kwon
권순영(b. 1975)은 인간의 본성에 관심을 두고 인간 내면에 실재하는 폭력성, 성욕, 두려움, 불안, 소외, 슬픔, 연민, 애정, 그리고 사랑의 감정에 이르기까지 강렬하면서도 동시에 비가시적인 세계를 동화적 환타지의 형식으로 재현하는 작업에 집중해 왔다.
단국대학교와 홍익대학교 대학원에서 동양화를 전공했으며, <Flashback>(관훈갤러리, 2007), <Empty Smiles, 슬픈 모유>(갤러리팩토리,2011, 2014), <눈물의 여정>(소소갤러리, 2017), <유령의 땅>(더 소소, 2023) 등 개인전과 <아아! 동양화:이미 항상 변화>(화이트블럭, 2023), <The SoSo special>(더소소, 2022), <밤을 넘는 아이들>(서울대학교 미술관, 2022), <현대회화의 모혐:나는 나대로 혼자서 간다>(국립현대미술관 청주, 2019), <솔로쇼>(해담하우스, 2018), <A STORY WITHOUT A STORY>(갤러리룩스, 2017), <스틸엑츠>(아트선재센터, 2016), <무진기행>(금호미술관, 2016) 등 다수의 단체전에 참여했다.
With interest in human nature, Soon-young Kwon(b. 1975) reproduces the intense yet invisible world of violence, sexual desire, fear, anxiety, alienation, sadness, compassion, affection, and love that exist inside humans in the form of a fairy tale fantasy.
She studied in Oriental Painting at Dankook University and Hongik University Graduate Schools respectively. She has been presented solo exhibitions include <Flashback>(Kwan Hoon Gallery, 2007), <Empty Smiles, The Milk of Sorrow>(Gallery Factory, 2011, 2014), <A Journey of Tears>(Soso Gallery, 2017) and <The Land of Ghosts>(The SoSo, 2023). 유 재 연 Jaeyeon Yoo
1988년 서울에서 태어났다. 이화여자대학교에서 서양화과 학사를, 영국 왕립예술학교(Royal College of Art)에서 회화 석사를 마치고 서울과 런던을 오가며 작품 활동을 하고 있다.
유재연은 밤의 사유들로부터 출발한 일상과 환상이 병존하는 풍경을 구축하며 일상에서 겪게 되는 크고 작은 사건들, 그리고 그 사건들로부터 출발한 개인의 상상과 사유를 ‘밤’이라는 시간과 장소에 집중하여 풀어나간다. 유년시절의 경험과 기억을 애틋하게 시각화하고 한 켠엔 불안한 상황 혹은 불분명한 대상을 등장시키며, 세계의 양가적인 측면을 회화로 표현해왔다.
이는 사적인 기억이자 동시에 환상에 의해 생성되는 미묘한 감정들로부터 사회와 개인, 과거와 현재, 내면과 외부, 존재와 인식 등과 같은 이중적인 세계를 따르는 ‘간극’을 주목하고자 함이다. 어둠 속에서 발현되는 빛 - 달, 유성우, 핸드폰 화면 등 – 을 경유하여 ‘푸른 밤’의 풍경을 감각하고, 늦은 밤 홀로 산책하는 자의 모습을 담은 <나이트 워커(Night Walker)>연작으로 고립과 자유라는 이중의 상태를 표현해왔다.
Jaeyeon Yoo is a South Korean artist, born in Seoul in 1988. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Western Painting from Ewha Womans University and her Master’s degree in Painting from the Royal College of Art. She is currently living between Seoul and London where she creates her works in both cities.
Contemplative about the night, Yoo composes landscapes where fantasy and daily life may coexist. Sometimes discomforting and unfamiliar, her works bring the viewers into the artists’ experiences and childhood memories, expressing the equivocal aspects of this world as well as both the small and large events of the day, accompanied by self-reflection and imagination.
This is to draw on the gap between dualities – memory and fantasy, subtlety and honesty, society and individual, past and present, inside and outside, existence and recognition. Her blue night series embodies the state of seclusion in freedom, revealing a lonely figure walking in the darkness lit up by technology and nature.
